COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - A Coldwater man is behind bars again more than a year and a half after originally being arrested with charges later dismissed and then refiled this summer in connection with a sporting goods scam. 41-year old Jason Moore was booked Friday at the Branch County jail on two felony counts of larceny by conversion. Michigan State Police allege that Moore ordered goods from suppliers with the intent of never paying for them.
The merchandise, canoes, kayaks, fishing poles and more valued at up to $150,000 was seized, some of it from storage lockers near Coldwater Lake. Moore claimed to be a sporting goods retailer, went about placing orders, including some to out of state suppliers, received the items and then, according to police, didn’t pay for the stuff.
The charge Moore is facing is a five year felony.
