LANSING (WKZO) -- Michigan is one-step closer to requiring women to buy abortion insurance separately. Monday was the deadline for a challenge to be filed against more than 315-thousand signatures turned in to the Secretary of State regarding an initiative that would prohibit abortion coverage from being included in standard insurance policies.
The petition was submitted by anti-abortion activists Michigan Right to Life. If the proposal becomes law, it would require all private and public health insurance plans to offer a separate rider for an abortion.
The state Board of Canvassers is scheduled to meet to certify the signatures on December 2nd.
