COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - In Branch County high school sports, it was a light schedule yesterday with just one varsity event and in volleyball, Coldwater was a 3-0 winner at home over Battle Creek Central. Kenzie Galloway had 10 kills and Michaela Gillette had 3 digs while the assist leaders were Meghan Schorfhaar with 15 and Ashley Chase with 14. The victory moved the Lady Cardinals record to 3-and-1 in the SMAC East and 10-7-and-7 overall. The Bearcats are coached by former Coldwater High coach Gene Pensari. Next up for Coldwater is Saturday’s Harper Creek Invitational. In yesterday’s freshman match, Coldwater beat Battle Creek Central 2-0. Kaitlyn Gallant had 4 kills, Natalie Ward had 3 aces and Lydia AcMoody had 3 assists.
On tonight’s high school schedule, in boys soccer, Coldwater plays at home against Battle Creek Lakeview in a second round SMAC Gold Division conference tournament game. It’s begins around 6:45 following the j-v match which starts at five o’clock. Also in soccer, Quincy has a 5 p.m. game at Jonesville. In boy’s tennis, it’s Coldwater at Pennfield while Bronson is at the Hillsdale Invitational. In volleyball, it’s Quincy at Hanover Horton. And there’s reserve football tonight, including Coldwater at home against Kalamazoo Loy Norrix with the freshman game at 4:30 and the j-v kickoff scheduled for 6:30. Also in j-v action, it’s Quincy at Union City and Bronson at White Pigeon.
