WASHINGTON D.C. (WTVB) - The Republican Leadership met with the President yesterday afternoon and they may be closer to a deal that will restore the true faith and credit of the U.S. Government and put everyone back to work, but they aren’t there yet. Southwest Michigan Congressman Fred Upton sat in on the talks. Upton says lawmakers and the President are close and suggests the agreement would end both the government shut down and take care of the debt ceiling but he would not offer details.
It’s clear that there is no apparent deal yet, just talks but that’s a big improvement on where they were. It comes as an NBC-Wall Street Journal Poll showed more and more people were blaming the republicans for governmental dysfunction, and that President Obama’s numbers were actually climbing. Republican favorability has fallen to 24% and the Tea Party to 21%, the lowest in the poll’s history. It also showed the popularity of the Affordable Care Act has actually improved, suggesting it’s all back fired on the GOP.
