Paw Paw man arrested for attempted murder


PAW PAW (WKZO) -- A Paw Paw man has been arrested for attempted murder after deputies say he brutally beat his ex-girlfriend and the mother of his children. .

Van Buren County Sheriff's deputies responded to a call from a neighbor about an assault in progress around 8:30 a.m. Thursday in the 60000-block of County Road 665 in Paw Paw. The caller said a woman whose face was covered in blood was being chased by a man who forced her into a residence.  On arrival, deputies were able to subdue the man and separate him from the woman.

Deputies say it appears that 22-year-old Kane Daniel Reeves was lying in wait for the victim.  He  accused her of having an affair with a friend and began beating her.   In their news release, deputies say Reeves told the woman that he had warned her before that she was going to die if she ever left him.

  They described the assault as "immediate and vicious". 

The suspect was lodged in the Van Buren County Jail after he was treated for self-inflicted facial injuries suffered when he slammed his face into the plexiglass divide in a police cruiser.  He's been charged with assault with intent to commit murder and attempted murder.  

She was taken to Bronson-Lakeview Hospital in Paw Paw and has been scheduled to have reconstructive surgery to repair the damage done to her face.
