COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - Some sizable industrial expansion and retention numbers will be on the table Monday night for a Coldwater City Council public hearing. At issue is a tax abatement request from Asama Coldwater Manufacturing, one of larger employers in Branch County. The tax break would be on $10 million worth of new machinery and equiptment to be used in the manufacturing of castings for the automotive industry as well as Asama’s second paint line.
ACM says in 2011 it started shifting from producing steering knuckles and rear brakes to making all round brakes, front and rear, for Honda vehicles in North America. The equipment they are buying that they would like to apply to the tax abatement would allow them to meet all customer demands for painted products in-house. ACM tells city officials the new machinery will increase the plant’s competitiveness in the industry and they estimate they can retain their current employment of 331 workers with these projects
