DETROIT, MI (WTVB) - The Tigers this afternoon will try to bounce back against Boston at Comerica Park after the Red Sox rallied past Detroit in a shocker Sunday night at Fenway Park to even up the best of 7 American League Championship Series at a game apiece. Boston used an eighth-inning gram slam from David Ortiz and a walkoff hit in the ninth to erase a 5-1 Tiger lead and steal Game 2. Justin Verlander goes to the mound for Detroit against Red Sox right-hander John Lackey. The first pitch is set for shortly after 4 pm.
Verlander pitched 15 scoreless innings in the ALDS against Oakland, including 8 in the winner take-all Game 5. Lackey lost both of his starts to the Tigers this season. Games 4 and 5 are eight o’clock night games in Detroit scheduled for tomorrow and Thursday. Game Six, if necessary, would be Saturday afternoon in Boston, where a Game Seven, if needed, is set for Sunday night.
In the National League Championship series, the Dodgers avoided going down 3-0 to the Cardinals by beating St. Louis 3-0 in Game 3 last night in Los Angeles, where Game 4 will be played tonight.
