CHICAGO (WKZO) -- Amtrak ridership is up nationwide and no where has it grown faster than right here in Michigan.
Amtrak Spokesman Marc Magliari says fluctuating gas prices and road congestion has driven more riders to the rails.
Nationwide it was up 1%. In Kalamazoo and in Michigan as a whole it was up 4%. In Ann Arbor it was up 10%, but it fell 3% in East Lansing.
With new tracks going in between Kalamazoo and Dearborn to allow higher speed trains, they say ridership should continue to climb.
