LANSING (WKZO) -- The NERD fund has apparently become a political liability for the Governor. While it was legal, its become a public relations problem and so there are plans to close out the bank account and replace it with something that is more transparent, and less controversial.
it’s been used to finance Kevyn Orr’s luxury pad in Detroit, fund Snyder staffers and make improvements on Snyder’s private home.
Its reportedly taken in 1.7-million in donations in the past three years. The Governor says it was being used to lift the burden off the taxpayer. Critics say it was corporations buying influence.Democratic Challenger Mark Schauer still thinks Snyder should reveal who the donors were.
He says the decision to replace it is an admission that something was improper.
Heading into a reelection cycle, apparently it’s a P.R. problem the Governor didn’t want to deal with anymore, and he reportedly asked the NERD fund board to shut down.
