DOUGLAS (WKZO)-- It’s not clear if the early winter weather was to blame, but a collision along I-196 in Allegan County has left two people dead and a third hospitalized.
Deputies say it was actually a pair of crashes that occurred in the southbound lanes of the interstate near the exit to Blue Star Highway near Douglas.
State Police say a car went out of control and into a guardrail, at about 8:20.
The driver of a second car stopped to help, crossed the highway on foot and as he stood with the first driver near the wreck, a third driver went out of control, and struck and killed them both, and then hit the wreckage of the first car.
The driver of the third car was airlifted to emergency. No names have been released. The highway was closed for nearly 4 hours but reopened early this morning.
