COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - It’s time again for the annual Tibbits Auction in Coldwater and tonight’s 34th edition of the event will feature for the 28th time the Barton S. Tibbits Sponsorship package. The high bidder on this package receives their choice of four seats to every performance at the Tibbits Opera House for an entire year. Last year the tickets included 64 different events and over 100 performances and the value of the tickets for all of the performances was around $8,000. The BST sponsorship is named after the man who built the theatre 131 years ago. The Auction is a major fundraiser for the theatre with Norma Geishert was the BST sponsor this past year.
According to Geishert, she and her late husband Ed loved sharing the tickets, using them to introduce new people to the theater and she’s hoping someone else will step up and bid on it. The first BST Sponsorship went up for auction in 1986 when Marie and Richard Bettinger purchased it and shared many of the tickets with their McDonald’s employees. Other past sponsors over the years include Catherine and Irv Harris, Jane & Harold Schultz and Dale & Judy Custer. While many have sponsored for multiple years, there were none for as many as Ed Geishert who had been the sponsor for 12 of the 28 years that it’s been offered. Last year after Ed’s passing Norma purchased it one more time to honor Ed and suggests businesses and organizations can use the tickets for clients, as customer incentives or even as employee perks.
More than 600 items will be up for bid at this year’s auction. Doors open and silent auction bidding begins at 6:15 pm Saturday. For more information on the Tibbits 34th annual Auction, visit www.Tibbits.org. And see highlights of many of the items up for bid at www.Tibbits.org/blog/.
