SPRINGFIELD, MI (WTVB) - Who would call in a bomb threat to a residential and rehab facility for seniors? That’s what the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office Springfield team is trying to figure out after they had to evacuate and search Evergreen Manor yesterday. The female caller warned them that a bomb was about to go off at about 1 p.m. and staff had to scramble to evacuate the 75 seniors who live in the facility on Evergreen Road. They were taken to another senior complex for several hours until a State Police bomb sniffing K-9 went through the facility, and it was thoroughly searched.
The Battle Creek Enquirer reported a terminally ill man had died during the evacuation. The Enquirer said they were told by the administrator of the facility that privacy laws prevented him from confirming details of the death but added no other patients appeared to have suffered any injures. Under new state terrorism provisions, such threats can mean some serious penalties for the person responsible.
