TEKONSHA, MI (WTVB) - It’s not a good idea to play tricks on the cops, with proof positive late last night in Tekonsha Township. Calhoun County deputies were called to a reported armed robbery that had just occurred at the TA Travel Plaza on M-60 near I-69. A 58-year old Wayne County man was the supposed victim of the robbery and gave police a description of the bandit and the property that was taken.
Michigan State Police along with the Albion Department of Public Safety’s K-9 and Homer Village Police showed up in the windy rainy weather to look for the suspect. After a tight perimeter was set and a thorough search was completed deputies made contact again with the man who was allegedly ripped off to confirm his information. However, his recollection of the supposed crime varied greatly each time he told his story and now the roles are reversed, the victim becoming the wanted suspect. He eventually confessed he invented the story to cover up property that wasn’t stolen, but lost.
The suspect is being charged with filing a false felony police report and giving false information in the investigation of a felony.
