LANSING (WKZO) -- Binge Drinking is not a new problem on college and High School campuses,  but what used to be just a unwise practice among the young, is now being called a major health problem, with life long consequences.

The Centers for Disease Control says binge drinking cost the nation 223.5-billion dollars and the state of Michigan 8.2-billion dollars each year in lost wages, lost jobs, healthcare costs and traffic mishaps.

Angela Minicuci with the State Dept. of Public Health says studies show that 18% of all teenagers have engaged in binge drinking at least once in the past year.  That's about the same as adults.

Binge drinking is considered to be 5 drinks for a man at one sitting and 4 drinks for a woman.
