BENZIE COUNTY (WKZO) -- 45-year-old Kelli Stapleton is being held without bond in the Benzie County Jail for attempted murder and her daughter is still hospitalized, possibly suffering from brain damage due to the carbon monoxide poisoning.
Doctors say the teen is moving her digits and struggling against a breathing tube and that's a good sign.
Stapleton was found sealed up in a van with her daughter, Issy, and two small grills with burning charcoal.
The carbon monoxide would have killed them both if police had not intervened and rescued them.
It appears from her blog that Stapleton, a Battle Creek native who was living in Northern Michigan with her husband and 13-year-old severely autistic daughter was at the end of her rope. .
