BRANCH COUNTY (WKZO) -- A Coldwater woman is facing multiple charges, including suspicion of drunken driving, after her car with three young children as passengers, smashed head on into the brick corner front side entrance of the First Presbyterian Church on Marshall near Grand Street in Coldwater shortly after 6 p.m. Friday.
The 25-year old driver was booked at the Branch County jail on 3 counts: child endangerment, OUIL causing serious injury and driving on a suspended license. Her name is being withheld pending arraignment Monday.
Coldwater City Police said her two daughters, a four year old and a five year old, were not adequately restrained and were riding only on booster seats while a 4-month old son was buckled in a child safety seat, but it wasn’t properly installed.
All four were taken to the Community Health of Branch County for treatment. The mother and the infant were released while the 5-year old was admitted in stable condition.
CHC says the younger sister was transferred to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo for further care. She suffered a head laceration.
There’s no word on her condition. There was some minor damage to the church building. The accident remains under investigation.
