Dominant Scherzer, Kinsler Power Detroit to Win Over Kansas City

Ian Kinsler started the scoring for the Tigers in Wednesday’s game against the Kansas City Royals and fittingly finished it, leading Detroit to a 2-1 win with a walk off single in the tenth inning.

Kinsler started the scoring for the Tigers, going 3-for-5 with a fourth inning solo home run and the game-winning RBI single. The Tigers held a 1-0 lead going into the ninth inning before Joe Nathan gave up a run.

Austin Jackson led off the tenth inning with a walk and scored from second base on the Kinsler single to give the Tigers their second win of the season.

Max Scherzer picked up where he left off in 2013, tallying seven strikeouts against one walk in eight innings of work while earning the no decision. Nathan took his first blown save of the season after giving up the game-tying run in the ninth inning. Al Alburquerque earned his first win of the season after pitching one inning of relief.

The Tigers improve to 2-0 on the season, while the Kansas City Royals fall to 0-2.

The Tigers will look for the series sweep on Thursday when Anibal Sanchez takes the mound against Kansas City. Dan Dickerson and Jim Price have the call beginning at 12:40 p.m. on 590 WKZO.
