COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - Coldwater city officials and private investor Jennifer Wingard have been meeting and planning for more than five years to move ahead with the redevelopment of the former Kerr Hardware building on U-S 12 in downtown Coldwater. And now, all the myriad pieces of local and state loan and grant requirements for the $5.5 million project have fallen into place. Nearly a decade and a half since the city first put the property up for sale, the Coldwater Downtown Development Authority last night executed a deed transferring the parcels of land to Wingard’s investment company.
A building permit has been issued to Foulke Construction of Hillsdale with work scheduled to begin next week on developing the historic 32,000 sq. ft. three story structure into fourteen rental apartment units and three first floor commercial tenant spaces, including a restaurant. Additional details including a timeframe for completion will be released as the project moves forward.
