DETROIT - The Tigers’ run as the major’s last unbeaten team ended yesterday with a 3-1 loss at Comerica Park to Baltimore as the Orioles salvaged the finale of the 3-game series in Detroit. Justin Verlander pitched well, but not good enough to avoid the defeat which dropped Detroit’s record to 4-1. Verlander fell to 0-1 with his first decision of the year, giving up two runs and five hits over eight innings. He was outdueled by Baltimore starter Chris Tillman, who went eight-and-a-third innings for his first win, giving up 5 hits including Torii Hunter’s solo homer in the fourth. The Tigers have the day off today before beginning a 5-game interleague road trip, starting tomorrow night against the Los Angeles Dodgers for a 2-game series and then it’s on to San Diego for a 3 game set with the Padres starting Friday.
The White Sox improved to 3-and-3 with their 5-1 win yesterday at Kansas City while the Cubs are now 2-4 after beating the Phillies 8-3 at Wrigley Field.
