SOUTH HAVEN (WKZO) -- A 19-year-old from South Haven is being held on 25-thousand dollars bond after he assaulted an older man and then assaulted a couple of the police officers who responded to the fight.
Van Buren County Deputies say it began with a verbal argument at an address in the 700 block of 67th street just before 3 p.m. Monday.
It escalated to physical violence. Deputies say when they arrived, 19-year-old Eric Murphree was combative and resisted arrest.
During the struggle that followed to get him handcuffed and into the cruiser, Deputies claim he burned one officer with a cigarette and spat in the face of another.
He is charged with resisting, domestic assault, aggravated assault and minor in possession.
