DETROIT (WKZO) -- General Motors has announced that they plan to introduce a second and less expensive version of the Volt in the 2016 model year.
The new model will sell for around $30-thousand, making it the least expensive of the electric hybrids.
It will also be made in Michigan.
GM has announced it will spend $449 million to improve two Detroit area plants to manufacture the next-generation Volts.
Many of the parts manufactured for the Volt are made in Michigan parts plants.
Reuters reports that the automaker hopes it will boost the sluggish sales of the Chevy Electric Vehicle.
The cheaper version will have less range and fewer features than the original design, which is currently selling for about $35-thousand.
