EAST LANSING (WKZO) -- The Michigan State University campus is grieving, following the death of the super-fan known as Princess Lacey, the 8-year-old cancer patient who became a special friend to Adriean Payne.

She helped him cut down the nets the night the Spartans won the Big Ten Tourney, and the rest of the nation was introduced to their story during the NCAA Tourney.

A vigil was held on campus last night with several team members and Coach Izzo in attendance.

Lacey Holsworth passed away in her parent’s arms at their home in St. John early Wednesday from neuroblastoma, a form of cancer.

Payne has issued a statement calling her his sister and say she will always be part of his life.

A memorial service has been tentatively scheduled at the Breslin Center on April 17th.
