Detroit's offense struggled and Max Scherzer had a rough outing on the mound in Sunday's series finale against San Diego as the Tigers fell to the Padres 5-1.
The Tigers are now 6-4 on the season and 2-3 on the road.
Victor Martinez generated the only scoring for Detroit with an RBI single in the fourth inning that drove in Torii Hunter.
Scherzer struck out 10 batters but gave up four earned runs over five innings and earned his first loss of the season. Ian Krol also gave up an earned run in less than an inning of relief.
Detroit threatened to get back into the game in the top of the ninth inning with runners on first and third but the momentum did not translate into runs.
The Tigers return to Comerica Park on Tuesday when Detroit faces off against the Cleveland Indians for the first time this season. Anibal Sanchez is scheduled to take the mound opposite Cleveland's Zach McAllister. Dan Dickerson and Jim Price will have the call beginning at 6:40 p.m. on 590 WKZO.
