AUBURN HILLS, MI (WTVB) - Joe Dumars and the Pistons decided it couldn’t wait. With one game left in another losing season for Detroit, Dumars has resigned as the president of basketball operations for the Pistons. The announcement came Monday and the move is effective immediately. Dumars has spent 29 years with the Pistons, including 14 as a player and the last 15 in the front office, building a team that won the NBA title in 2004 and advanced to the NBA Finals the following season.
Detroit is a disappointing 29-52 this year heading into Wednesday's season finale at Oklahoma City. The Pistons will miss the playoffs for a fifth straight season. Dumars has agreed to remain with the club as an advisor.
