DETROIT, MI (WTVB) - The Tigers offensive struggles with Miguel Cabrera’s early season slump continued last night in a 3-1 loss to the White Sox in the opener of a 4-game series at Comerica Park. Detroit outhit Chicago 9-5 but the Tigers were 0-10 with runners in scoring position and they left ten on base. Cabrera went 0-for-4 with his average slipping to .206.

Detroit starter Anibal Sanchez fell to 0-and-2 after allowing all three runs over 6-and-a-third innings. Sanchez was sailing along with a one-hitter until the seventh inning when the White Sox scored all their runs on 4-hits and were helped along by a Detroit throwing error from the outfield.

The Tigers drop to 9-7 while the White Sox are back even at .500 with a 10-10 record. Justin Verlander goes to the mound tonight for Detroit.

The Tigers have called up outfielder/infielder J.D. Martinez from Triple-A Toledo. Martinez will take the roster spot of reliever Luke Putkonen, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list with inflammation in his right elbow. The former Houston Astros outfielder was batting .308 with ten home runs, including four homers in a doubleheader on Saturday for the Mud Hens.
