KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- The EPA says it has heard the request from the City of Kalamazoo and will slow down the process of choosing a clean-up plan for the Allied Paper dump site off Alcott St.
The decision was announced at last night’s open house.
The City’s Bruce Minsley says they still want all the PCB’s removed, the extra time will allow them to discuss what to do with the property, and what kind of legal liability issues might go along with building on it and owning it.
Instead of this summer the EPA’s Michael Berkoff says their preferred remediation plan will be released later this year.
Comments ranged from PCB’s aren’t really a threat, to it’s a toxic hot spot and a waste of space, but everyone who was from the local area agreed the contamination should be removed.
