Borgess Run for the Health of it is getting members of the community involved in the weekend of events leading up to and including the Kalamazoo Marathon by offering an array of volunteer opportunities.
The volunteering begins with the weeks leading up to race day. The event is looking for people to help organize and sort t-shirts, signage and course giveaways. These tasks are usually done Monday through Friday during regular business hours.
On Friday, May 2, volunteers will be sought to help with Fun Run registration and packet pick-up as well as assisting with the Kid's Expo, setting up the course, organizing runners by age group prior to the run, supervising the course during the race, being ready with first aid and cleaning up after the event.
The Run Expo takes place on Saturday, May 3 from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Volunteers will be needed to help set up and work in shifts during the day. The event will also need volunteers to help tear down the previous day's Fun Run and set up for the events on Sunday.
Most of the events for the weekend will be held on Sunday, May 4. Tent City will require many volunteers. Volunteers will be needed to help coordinate and direct parking, assist runners in picking up numbers and t-shirts, check in and label gear for the runners, work the food and beer tents and clean up.
Medical volunteers will also be needed to operate medical tents throughout the course in order to keep the runners safe. Volunteers who work in the medical tents must have a medical background.
For the more creative volunteer, brainstormers will be sought to help create spirit stations.
