KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- One of the largest construction projects that MDOT has planned for the Kalamazoo area gets underway next week, and engineers were on hand last evening to brief the public on what will take place.
Jim Woods says It will take them two years and cost $21.5-million to replace the bridge over U.S.-131 at Stadium Drive, reconfigure the ramps and repave all the roads approaching the bridge.
He says there may be lane closures and bottlenecks, but they don’t plan to ever close Stadium or U.S. 131 completely during peak hours.
They plan to replace the ramps, using the same design recently installed at Westnedge and I-94, which will more efficiently handle the traffic.
That may require three-week long ramp closures.
They will also be adding double turn lanes at Stadium and Drake.
