STEUBEN COUNTY, IN (WTVB) - A Branch County man was killed over the weekend in a motorcycle accident in northeast Indiana. The victim of the crash that happened south of Orland was identified as 43-year old Michael Lofton of Quincy. Steuben County deputies said Lofton’s 2007 Harley Davidson left the roadway and struck a sign and then continued into a farm field. It was reported around 5:15 p.m. Saturday and occurred on CR 300 north just east of CR 1100 west.
According to deputies, alcohol is believed to be a factor and Lofton was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident which remains under investigation.
In another collision involving a motorcycle, a46-year old man had to be flown from the scene of a crash in Branch County around 11 pm Saturday. Michigan State Police said the biker hit a car that turned in front of him into a driveway on South Fremont Road near Middle Lake Road. The motorcyclist, who was not wearing a helmet, was taken by AirCare to Bronson hospital in Kalamazoo for treatment of a compound fracture of his left femur.
The 17-year old driver of the car and a passenger escaped injury. Troopers said alcohol was not a factor in the crash. No names were released.
