Chicago, IL (WKZO) – The Detroit Tigers wrap up the mouth of April with a 14-9 record after Wednesday afternoon’s 5-1 victory over the Chicago White Sox at US Cellular Field.

Max Scherzer (3-1) picked up the win, tossing six scoreless innings and recording seven strikeouts while allowing four hits and three walks. Al Alburquerque, and Joba Chamberlin each tossed a scoreless inning in relief of Scherzer but Evan Reed allowed a run in the ninth blowing the Tigers’ pursuit of their first shutout of the season. Reed closed out the game for Detroit, securing the brief two-game series sweep over the White Sox.

A night after bunting home the game winning run, Bryan Holaday hit a two-run double off of White Sox starter Hector Noesi, capping off a four running fourth for the Tigers. Victor Martinez and Nick Castellanos started the scoring after each hit sacrifice flies for the Tigers’ first two runs. Martinez hit a second sac fly in the ninth inning for the Tigers’ fifth run.

Ian Kinsler and Miguel Cabrera each had two hits.

The Tigers are off on Thursday before heading to Kansas City for a three game series with the Royals. Rick Porcello (3-1, 3.96 ERA) will take the mound in the opener against Royals’ ace James Shields (3-2, 2.03). First pitch is set for 8:10pm.
