BATTLE CREEK (WKZO) -- An unexpected lawsuit has sprung out of a police shooting last fall.
When Teenager Nicholas King failed to heed a Battle Creek Police Officer’s warning to drop a realistic looking Air-soft pistol last November, the officer shot him.
That’s what officers are trained to do.
The prosecutor ruled it justified, and fortunately the boy survived.
Now the parents of three young girls who were questioned after they witnessed the shooting near the Party Factor have filed a civil suit against Battle Creek Police, claiming their detention was unlawful.
The suit was filed in federal court in Kalamazoo.
