UPDATE: Two women seriously injured in crash that closed US 12 near Bronson Thursday afternoon

BRONSON, MI (WTVB) - The Branch County Sheriff’s Department says two women from Sturgis seriously injured Thursday afternoon when their car was involved in a 3-vehicle accident on U-S 12 west of Bronson near Carpenter Road are now in stable condition. According to deputies, an eastbound pickup truck tried to pass a farm combine also eastbound. But the pickup hit the grain head on the front of the combine, forcing the truck into the westbound lane into the path of the car. One of the car’s passengers was trapped and had to be freed with the Bronson Fire Department Jaws of Life.

Two women were flown from the scene by Borgess Hospital Air Care and Ft. Wayne Samaritan . The third woman was transported by Life Care Ambulance. The drivers of the pickup and the combine escaped injury. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash that happened around 2:45 pm yesterday. The Sheriff’s Department is not releasing any names at this point. The accident remains under investigation.  They shutdown U-S 12 between Deer Park and Taggart Roads for about 3 hours following the collision.

Then around 2 hours later, on Coldwater’s west side, an SUV and a car collided on U.S. 12 near Munson Street. A utility pole was hit causing the power lines to hang low over the roadway. Fortunately, there were no injuries but West Chicago Street was closed for about a half hour until the pole and wires were repaired.
