DETROIT, MI (WTVB) - The Detroit Tigers yesterday made it a 3-game sweep over the Rockies with a 4-0 shutout over Colorado at Comerica Park. Detroit starter Anibal Sanchez struck out a season-high 12 over seven innings of two-hit ball with no walks. Sanchez improved to 8-5. The Rockies have the worst record in the National League and second worst in the majors behind the Texas Rangers. Victor Martinez went 2-for-4 with a three run homer while Miguel Cabrera finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and a walk.
The first place Tigers stay 5 games ahead of second place Kansas City in the Central Division after the Royals beat the A’s 4-2 at Oakland. Tonight, Detroit begins a 9-game road trip, starting with a 4-game series against the New York Yankees.
The Chicago White Sox were crushed at home 16-3 by the Twins, who pounded out 23 hits. And the Cubs downed the Dodgers 7-3 at Los Angeles.
