JACKSON, MI (WTVB) - Another sign that the economy seems to be humming along as Jackson-based Consumers Energy is trying to keep up with the times. The number of new housing starts is on the rise and the utility has prepared to keep pace with the rising demand for new energy service connections by increasing their workforce with 200 new hires. The hiring began last year.
Consumers Energy is working with the Home Builders Association of Michigan to make improvements to the process. The projected number of new home starts is expected to be close to 16,000 in 2014.
