DETROIT (WKZO) -- Owners of millions of recalled General Motors vehicles with defective ignition switches are encountering yet another headache.
The auto maker's website has been incorrectly informing some owners that their vehicles are not on the massive recall list when they actually are. Now GM wants all owners impacted by the ignition switch recall to go back on the company's website and re-enter their VIN numbers in case their vehicle actually needs the switch repaired.
Regulators with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration called out GM for the website issue and told GM officials to quickly fix the site's VIN number recall information. Vehicle owners also can call GM customer care to see if their car is part of the recall.
The defective switches have been linked to more than a dozen deaths and GM knew about the defect for more than a decade before this year's recalls began.
