DETROIT, MI (WTVB) - The Lions won’t get a crack at Browns rookie quarterback Johnny Manziel right away Saturday night when the two teams play their exhibition opener at Ford Field in Detroit. Manziel will begin his first NFL game on the bench as Cleveland announced yesterday ex-Michigan State quarterback Brian Hoyer will start against the Lions. Manziel may still get some reps with the first-team offense, and the Browns left open the possibility of "Johnny Football" starting at some point in the preseason.
The Lions drew nearly 4,500 fans to their open practice last night at Ford Field. They weren’t able to see Detroit first round draft pick tight end Eric Ebron, who missed the session with an undisclosed injury. Detroit head coach Jim Caldwell said Ebron could miss Saturday’s game as well but stressed the injury is nothing serious and he should be back in a day or two.
