DETROIT, MI (WTVB) - Former Red Wings defenseman Brian Rafalski has been named to the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame class of 2014. The Dearborn native played 11 seasons in the NHL beginning in 1999 with New Jersey, winning the Stanley Cup in 2000 and 2003 with the Devils. He spent the last four seasons of his career with Detroit and was part of the Red Wings Stanley Cup Championship team in 2008. Rafalski also played for Team USA in the 2002 and 2010 Winter Olympics, earning two silver medals. He will be inducted in Minnesota on December 4th.
There will be outdoor hockey in California for a second straight season. The NHL announced Wednesday that the San Jose Sharks will be the home team when they play the Los Angeles Kings at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara on Feb. 21, 2015. The venue is the new home of the NFL's San Francisco 49ers. Los Angeles rallied from a 3-0 deficit to eliminate San Jose in the first round of this year's playoffs. The Kings went on to capture their second Stanley Cup title in three years. It will be the first outdoor game for San Jose. Los Angeles will participate in its second after losing to Anaheim at Dodger Stadium on Jan. 25.
