KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Lola Atkinson was scheduled to be on trial next week but that has been cancelled now that she has cut a deal with prosecutors.
She was an award winning and revered member of the Kalamazoo Community, the first Vice-president of the NAACP, and a property owner.
Atkinson will be sentenced on Sept. 22nd for conspiracy to commit arson.
Public Safety allegedly set up a video-taped sting to record Atkinson and her Handy-man paying off a tenant to get her to move from the rental property they planned to burn down for the insurance.
In exchange for Atkinson’s guilty plea, Prosecutors will drop a second charge of attempted arson and will leave sentencing up to the judge.
Handyman Elvis Patterson has already cut a similar deal.
