BATTLE CREEK (WKZO) -- Battle Creek Police are seeking tips that could lead to an arrest in the case of a train derailment Thursday night.
Around 9 p.m., an unknown suspect or suspects threw a switch that derailed five freight cars, damaging the cars and a portion of the track. Damages are estimated at around 100-thousand dollars. The Norfolk Southern railway stretch involved is along Porter Street near the Kellogg Company.
Railroad workers observed a person of interest leaving the area. He is described as a white male who ran to a full-size red pick-up truck with a utility trailer hauling lawn mowers and other equipment. No one was injured and no hazardous materials were involved in the derailment.
