Derek Jeter becomes the 6th all-time hitter in the MLB

NEW YORK (WKZO) -- Kalamazoo's Derek Jeter has moved up another spot in the all-time hit list..

It wasn’t much of a hit, just a dribbler that rolled down the third base line, but the infielder was unable to grab it with his bare hand and Derek Jeter was safe at first base.

Jeter's single in the sixth inning of a loss to Cleveland gave him 3,431 for his career as he passed Honus Wagner into sole possession of sixth place on the all-time MLB hit list.

Jeter called it a “wow” moment. "It's something I'm extremely proud of. Obviously, I would've liked to have won the game, but it's something I'll be able to tell my kids one day."

The crowd at Yankee Stadium gave The Captain an extended standing ovation as he once again made history. In fact, it may have been the one highlight of the game for Yankee fans as the Indians shut them out 3 to 0.

It’s possible, but not likely he will catch up to the #5 all time hitter Tris Speaker before the end of the year.
