LANSING, MI (WTVB) - The Michigan State Superintendent of Schools has put eleven charter school operators on notice that they have to clean up their act or they won’t be allowed to open any more schools. Pansophia Academy of Coldwater is chartered through Central Michigan University and CMU is not on the list unveiled Monday. It does however include a number of operators who oversee charter Schools in West Michigan such as Grand Valley State.
GVSU Charter School Director Tim Wood says it’s a surprise to them. Kellogg Community College and Ferris State are also being threatened with suspension if they don’t make improvements in transparency and accountability by October 22nd. It follows a Detroit Free Press expose that revealed just how little transparency and accountability is required of charter schools.
