GRAND RAPIDS (WKZO) -- The twelve-year-old boy charged with killing a nine-year-old is getting a mental evaluation. It's to see if he's competent to stand trial.
Jamarion Lawhorn is accused of stabbing Michael Verkerk to death on the playground of a mobile home park on Bellewood Street. He's being charged as an adult and is held without bond in the juvenile detention center.
The boy could receive life in prison without the possibility of parole if convicted as charged.
