KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Kalamazoo Public Safety has released the dash-cam video from a routine traffic stop that turned into a life-saving event for a Kalamazoo woman on Saturday.
PSO Jason Gates saw the woman run a red light on south Burdick Ave., hit the lights and pulled her over.
As he walked up to the car door he at first thought she was faking a problem to get out of a ticket, and then realized it was the real thing.
He got her to expell the hunk of sausage and bun that was stuck in her throat, using the Heimlich manuever.. The woman then spontaneously gave him a big hug and began crying as she sat back down in her car.
Gates says it’s the first time he has had to use the Heimlich and is glad he received training on how to do it.
She didn’t get a ticket.
