KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- A fight broke out when Public Safety officers stopped a 23-year-old man who was seen brandishing a pistol in the Edison Neighborhood Tuesday evening.
Lt. Lance Handlogten says they found the man walking down Cameron at about 7:30 p.m.
They say the suspect immediately reached for the gun in his waistband as he was approached and the struggle began.
They were able to disarm and subdue him after what they describe as a “ very intense confrontation”.
The suspect, who was already wanted on outstanding warrants will also face charges that he resisted arrest and was carrying a concealed weapon.
Police say the handgun was loaded.
It was the second gun seized from a young man in the Edison Neighborhood on Tuesday.
Very early in the morning, a tip that a teen with a gun was on a bicycle with a group of other boys was called into 9-1-1.
Police spotted the teen near a party store. He was a known gang member with a number of previous arrests.
They found the gun discarded nearby. It was seized and he was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon.
