UNDATED (WTVB) - Military and veterans' families in growing numbers are turning to food banks and food assistance programs to put food on their tables. The latest Hunger in America survey reports 20-percent of the households served by the Feeding America network has at least one member who has served in the military.
The survey also shows 620,000 households getting food help have at least one member who is currently serving on active military duty, in the reserves, or in the National Guard. The 2014 Hunger in America survey is the first to ask about military service.
The Feeding America network includes 200 food banks and 58,000 food assistance programs across the U.S.
