COOPERSVILLE (WKZO) -- A man who survived the fighting in Afghanistan has lost his life at a West Michigan intersection.
Coopersville Police say that 26-year-old veteran Mike Van Holstyn was west bound on Randall early Wednesday afternoon, approaching 64th Ave. when a man who was stopped at the intersection pulled out in front of his motorcycle.
The driver told police he never saw the motorcyclist. When VanHolstyn hit the car, he was thrown from the bike and landed on the pavement.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing a helmet.
His Parents say he ended his last tour of duty in December.
The occupants of the car, 61-year old Bradley Silvis of Muskegon and his wife were not injured. It remains under investigation.
