KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Construction of one of the nation's largest steam powered dryers has just finished in Kalamazoo and is about to make a 1000 mile journey.
The dryer is the size of a large airliner fuselage and was fabricated at the W Soule & Company at the Midlink Industrial Park on Sprinkle Avenue.
The Carbon Steel dryer will be carefully mounted on its trailers today, and if all goes as scheduled it will head west tomorrow. It weighs over 300-thousand pounds.
It is 70-foot long, 11-foot in diameter and looks like the world’s largest drain pipe, It will be slung between the two semi trailers and driven at 40-MPH all the way to a North Dakota ethanol plant where it will be used to dry corn.
It will have to be driven around some overpasses, because it’s just too tall to get under them.
