Quincy kicked off its boys soccer season with a 3-1 win against visiting Comstock. Jake Rider scored a pair of goals for the Orioles, while Evan Albright had a goal and two assists and Andy Parrish picked up an assist. Tanner Parshall recorded one save in goal for Quincy, who will host Gobles on Monday.
In girls golf, Coldwater finished in 2nd place out of the 5 teams that participated in the Lady Trojan Invitational hosted by Sturgis at Klinger Lake Country Club. Sturgis won the invitational with a 401 with Coldwater shooting a 445. Coldwater's Emma Dwyer was runner-up for the event carding a round of 97, while Haley Linton shot a 111, Madison Donbrock had a 115, Kenzie McGuire carded a 122, and Samantha Dygert rounded out the scoring with a 151. Coldwater's varsity will travel to Charlotte on next Wednesday to play in the inaugural Interstate 8 Jamboree. Coldwater's JV team will be in action on Monday at Binder Park in Battle Creek.
In JV Volleyball, Union City started its season by going 0-3-1 at the St. Philip JV Invitational. The Chargers tied White Pigeon and lost to Centreville and Colon in pool play; they fell to White Pigeon 2 games to 1 in bracket play. Jamison Watson had 9 kills and 6 blocks on the day, while Brenna Johnson added 9 kills and Carley Robertson had 7 assists and 12 aces. Meanwhile, Coldwater's freshman volleyball team went 6-0 in winning the season-opening Comstock Invitational. The Lady Cardinals beat Stevensville Lakeshore 21-25, 25-21, 15-12 in the championship game. Earlier, they beat Thornapple Kellogg 2-1 in the semifinals and Comstock 2-0 in the quarterfinals; they went 3-0 in pool play with 2-game wins against Otsego, Lawton, and Thornapple Kellogg. For the day, Addison Harvey had 13 kills, Allison Adams had 33 assists and 24 digs, and Sarah Hughes had 9 blocks and served 10 aces. Coldwater visits Bronson on Monday.
On today's schedule, the varsity volleyball season kicks off as Coldwater, Quincy, and Union City compete at the Carrie Adams Memorial Invitational at the Battle Creek Y Center, while Bronson hosts Homer, Almont, and Comstock in the Bronson Invitational. Finally, in cross country, Bronson and Union City begin the season by running at Colon's Magi Inviational.
