KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- The investigation into a product tampering case in Kalamazoo has been turned over to the FBI.
The feds will be searching for the person who replaced Mega Red Krill Oil pills with candy, nuts, cat food and prescription heart medications in local Meijer stores.
They have a person of interest, identified through store surveillance and credit card receipts, who apparently bought the Krill pills, swapped them out, resealed the packages and returned them for refunds.
Meijer staff then restocked them on the shelf.
They have since removed the entire product line from the stores.
Their suspect, a man in his 30’s, has now reportedly left the state.
They have no idea why he did it, but hope they will find out when they track him down.
So far no one has been injured or made ill by the tampering, which could result in up to ten years in prison if there is a conviction.
