Tigers turn it around on Twins, 13-4 in final game

MINNEAPOLIS (WKZO) -- Two massive Minnesota victories was enough for Detroit. So, they spent Sunday beating up on the team for a 13-4 victory, splitting the series 2-2.

Detroit gained an early lead with three runs driven in by Ian Kinsler, Torii Hunter and Victor Martinez, but a sloppy third inning by Max Scherzer (15-4), which saw the Twins counter with three of their own, put the fate of the series up in the air.

After a sleepy fourth, however (where the teams stood at 3-3), Martinez drove in another run, whlie Alex Avila followed with a grounder off which Hunter scored. Once Detroit gained that lead, they just didn't stop picking up momentum.

Victor Martinez homered in the 6th, and Rajai Davis followed suit an inning later, both of which were two-run homers. The Tigers brought their lead to 9 runs an inning later, with a single from Eugenio Suarez and a triple from Torii Hunter. Throughout all this, the Twins could only get one lone run, off Detroit reliever Phil Coke.

With the win, Detroit are only two games behind the AL Central first-place Royals, but are still one behind the Mariners as they battle for the second AL wild card place. The Tigers are back home, hosting the Yankees on Tuesday. Game one is on 590 WKZO at 6:40 PM.
